our story

At Matt & Tony’s, we believe in big flavors, warm hospitality, and meals that make memories.

Our roots trace back to Anton “Tony” Schabas, an Austrian pastry chef who crossed the Atlantic aboard a German cruise ship—never allowed to step foot in New York. Until one day, determined to start fresh, he grabbed his belongings and jumped ship. Tony landed a spot at the Waldorf Astoria and his rye bread became so renowned that former President John F. Kennedy once had it delivered to the White House.

Today, his great-grandson Matt carries that legacy forward with a menu full of bold, scratch-made American fare. From towering plates of chicken and waffles and unforgettable shrimp and grits to mouthwatering braised ribs—we serve comfort food with personality.

Whether you're here for brunch, burgers, or a round of our unique hand-crafted cocktails at the bar, Matt & Tony’s brings people together with big flavors, warm hospitality, and a little unexpected fun.
